Sound

DOlly

Directional Mics need to be pointed to the exact source of noise otherwise it will pick up unwanted sounds.
The camera dolly may be used as a shooting platform on any surface but is often raised onto a track, to create smooth movement on a horizontal axis known as a dolly shot. Additionally, most professional film studio dollies have a hydraulic jib arm that raises or lowers the camera on the vertical axis.

Making My Music Magazine

In this representation, you can see I ma playing around with curves. I found that the best black and white effect I wanted would be with a completely straight line.

This was the cover before I had decided to fill the mast head in with colours. I decided to add colour because it seemed a little too bland which made it boring and wouldn't stand out.

In order to fill with colours, I selected the area i wanted to colour,  went to file, fill and then chose the colour i wanted to use. it was simple and easy.

This was the final product, of which i  talk about in my evaluation.

My Music Magazine Analysis

This is my final product of the music magazine front cover.
The girl in the visual,Sky Mulvey, is a student and friend who was happy to be the muse.

The effect of the pose can be taken in different views. I, myself see it is a girl laughing, however when I asked around for criticism, people thought the girl was:

  • crying
  • laughing
  • embarassed
Emotionally speaking, a picture will tell us what we want to see. What we feel. So for many people, the photo will mean different things which then opens up the audience of readers further.

The mast head has been rotated 90 degrees to make it vertical, reading down. I done this because it differentiates from other magazines and looks bolder. the colours that fill in the text are different from the offical BILLBOARD logo. The colours also bring out different moods depending on which colour you focus most on. For example, the red can make a danger of love vibe, or the yellow could be happiness and innocence.
I have used different types of text for each line. The 2015 is faded and small, that is because it isn't the main attention. 'Sky Mulvey' is is curved fluorescent font to represent the feature and femininity of the subject. Lastly, 'Woman of the year' is straight capital font to emphasise the importance of the subject title.

The whole theme is laid back, calm and giving off a collected vibe. The reason for this is because the topic is Woman Of The Year, and the tidiness gives an evidence feel of worth.

However, to improve I would try to experiment with colours a lot more, and maybe add more text, working with the two thirds. I could possible use a photo with Sky's faces showing rather than being hidden.

Music Magazine cover analysis

This magazine is aimed at Latinas and teens. The demographic audience needs are met by the colour scheme; all colours are bright and stand out yet they work out well together. The orange, red, brown, pink, white and green evoke a sense of individuality; having a visual representation of the magazines differentiation to others therefore making it stand out.
The font is large and clear, it avoids a clash with the colours but also matches one of the girls clothing choices.

The visual shows five girls laying 'snuggled' together in bug wintery coats that give off the vibe of topics about winter, friendship, love ect…

The tag lines language shows that the main audience would be mid teens, or elder women. The language used will always give away the typeof interview/content inside the magazine.

Magazine analysis front cover

This Magazine cover of Angelina Jolie looks like the demographics would be aimed at late teens and up. We receive that inference because of the colour scheme, it is mature and calm. We also see this from the language used, it is sophisticated yet catchy.
The design is eloquent with the black, white and nude colour scheme. It shows maturity for the target audience letting them know they will be interested. The tag lines are eye catching and intriguing.

The font is simple and easy to read, it goes stands out against the darker parts of the image. However it is good they the font as been changed around as it keeps the interest of the reader. The graphics give off a calming feel.
The theory of thirds have been used here. Angelina's face is the centre third which we automatically look to.

Possible improvements
In my personal opinion I think the magazine could be improved by not cramming the text on the right hand corner. Though it is visible to read it looks squashed.

Media Mind Map

Media is the main means of mass communication (television, radio, and newspapers) regarded collectively.

To me media is the way we communicate, express ourselves and pass time.

Karlie Kloss analysis

The colours contrast, especially the dark purple to Karlie’s eyes.
The fact that the photo is up close and personal tells us that the Karlie’s side of the magazine will be detailed about her life. To further prove this observation, the text on the left side is titled ‘brains, business, en benen’ which are all personal factors of someones life.
The title alone (VOGUE) represents value and worth from the known brand name.
Further more, the ‘Full force fashion’ represents the contents of the magazine; fashion.

Magazine cover plan

REAL MAGAZINE COVER PLAN

Evaluation of music magazine
Ø Aimed at people aged 14+
Ø The cover magazine will meet the needs of a musical based audience. Mainly girls who like gossip, girl bands(maybe) and the subject of feminism.

Ø The cover design will have the according colours to the type of band or theme. I will be going for a calm theme, basic simple causing a tranquil effect.

Planning the elements
Ø The background would probably be soft, not drawing much attention. This allows the sole focus to be the artist at hand. Or it will have a street-effecting look, almost like a candid.
Ø Probably location, a natural setting has a better vibe in my personal opinion.
Ø Depending on what type of look/ music taste the artist is, they clothes should go according. For example is the artist is looking for a statement with the magazine, a change, the makeup should stand out, be Smokey whereas if the artist is in for a calming, opening up about their life look; it should be natural, tranquil looking.
Ø Props should reflect the mood given off along with the clothes. Clothes and props should compliment each other well.

Ensuring the layout works
Ø The text should match something within the main image focus. In this case (using a soft black and white effect) the billboard sign will be a shiny black.
Ø Because the effect of the magazine is suppose to be calming, minimal text should be used to carry on the vibe.

Draft Magazine Evaluation

What works?

The grey scale gradient of the ‘space cloud’ background blends in well with the figure. The clouds and skin tone match well, whilst the hair and black font complement each other well.
The background theme suits the ‘flying hair’ well as it gives an outer space feel with no limitations and no fore pulling you down.

Layout Conventions

The layout conventions I used are:
·      Mast head
·      Cover line
·      Dateline and barcode
·      Main cover line
·      Main image
·      Buzz words

Improvements

To improve, I think the photo of the figure should be easier to see. The hair seemingly disappears when the actual length should be the full way of the cover length.
The cover line font should match the solar system theme and probably be on both sides of the magazine whilst the picture is in the middle to make the two thirds.

I should put a top line in along with slogans or catch phrases to draw attention.
