Karlie Kloss analysis

The colours contrast, especially the dark purple to Karlie’s eyes.
The fact that the photo is up close and personal tells us that the Karlie’s side of the magazine will be detailed about her life. To further prove this observation, the text on the left side is titled ‘brains, business, en benen’ which are all personal factors of someones life.
The title alone (VOGUE) represents value and worth from the known brand name.
Further more, the ‘Full force fashion’ represents the contents of the magazine; fashion.

Magazine cover plan

REAL MAGAZINE COVER PLAN

Evaluation of music magazine
Ø Aimed at people aged 14+
Ø The cover magazine will meet the needs of a musical based audience. Mainly girls who like gossip, girl bands(maybe) and the subject of feminism.

Ø The cover design will have the according colours to the type of band or theme. I will be going for a calm theme, basic simple causing a tranquil effect.

Planning the elements
Ø The background would probably be soft, not drawing much attention. This allows the sole focus to be the artist at hand. Or it will have a street-effecting look, almost like a candid.
Ø Probably location, a natural setting has a better vibe in my personal opinion.
Ø Depending on what type of look/ music taste the artist is, they clothes should go according. For example is the artist is looking for a statement with the magazine, a change, the makeup should stand out, be Smokey whereas if the artist is in for a calming, opening up about their life look; it should be natural, tranquil looking.
Ø Props should reflect the mood given off along with the clothes. Clothes and props should compliment each other well.

Ensuring the layout works
Ø The text should match something within the main image focus. In this case (using a soft black and white effect) the billboard sign will be a shiny black.
Ø Because the effect of the magazine is suppose to be calming, minimal text should be used to carry on the vibe.

Draft Magazine Evaluation

What works?

The grey scale gradient of the ‘space cloud’ background blends in well with the figure. The clouds and skin tone match well, whilst the hair and black font complement each other well.
The background theme suits the ‘flying hair’ well as it gives an outer space feel with no limitations and no fore pulling you down.

Layout Conventions

The layout conventions I used are:
·      Mast head
·      Cover line
·      Dateline and barcode
·      Main cover line
·      Main image
·      Buzz words

Improvements

To improve, I think the photo of the figure should be easier to see. The hair seemingly disappears when the actual length should be the full way of the cover length.
The cover line font should match the solar system theme and probably be on both sides of the magazine whilst the picture is in the middle to make the two thirds.

I should put a top line in along with slogans or catch phrases to draw attention.
