I think this trailer shows horror very we as it uses lots of different paces in shots. It also shows a story line, whilst distrubing childhood innocence which we also tried to do in our product.
The trailer shows lots of junpy bits but also hides what is happening within the movie.

Through this trailer, there is a variety of different sounds. For example, when we see the somehow walking on it's own baby walker, we can hear nursery rhymes. When we see the baby monitor we hear the sound which would have been played during the film. This shows how there is a different between the sounds- sometimes they are placed on top and aren't really there- non-diegtic sound and sound which we can tell is part of the film- diegtic sound.

There is also time when the narration is placed alongside other sounds- creepy eerie music to build tension. As the editor this has massively had an impact on our idea because it gave me the idea of overlapping different sounds in making that horror genre atmosphere.

Another factor which I didn't notice at first, the gradual pace of the trailer slowly picks up. Originally, the trailer starts with moderate length clips, fading in then fading out. However as the trailer progresses, the clips begin to shorten. Also, the frequency of credit shots increase as the trailer progresses. As the editor, the also gave me the idea of building a pace up as my media product progresses, this is a good way in forming that tension- putting the audience on edge, as if they have to prepare themselves whether there will be a scream or something to make them jump.

Main Influences

For our project, we carried out different secondary research. E.g, Women In Black and The Conjuring.

We decide that the Women In Black was the most suited to our ideas as the opening scene has tea cups and little children which we wanted to try and incorporate into our own opening. We thought that the olden day colours and effects were clever and created more tension as the olden days are commonly thought of to be scary and unwelcoming.

Some things that show how we used women in black as our influence are the tea cups as mentioned before. You can see the picture on the Left used china tea cups and tea pot, however, as we didn't have enough money or time to find them, so we had to use plastic ones bought from Pound-land.

As the pictures above show, we tried to use dolls in a dolls-house, however, we could not get our hands on bug china dolls so we used little wishing dolls instead. We used dolls as it manipulates the train of childhood innocence and creates an odd tension atmosphere. The women in Black gave us different ideas and allowed us to explore different angles.

Edit Decision List

This is a document provided by Fern Disney, with the final editing list/log. IT shows each time period and the contents of it.

Editing Treatment

In this project, Fern edited it together and so I am not sure on what techniques she used. I have a extract of her comments on the editing treatment below:

"When editing, I learned different techniques such as adding factors onto the video to change it.

For example, I changed the curves on our clips to make it darker in certain parts of the product, originally the shots were over exposed in certain places, this meant when editing we could improve the way it looks.
A treatment I used to add to the horror genre, was creating a vignette. To do this I searched on YouTube to find out the method to do so. This consisted on me making a title screen shot. Making a shape. Changing the gradient. Changing the opacity. Resulting in the final result of our vignette. The reason I thought it was a good idea for a vignette was because it creates that stereotypical tunneling aspect, we focus on the middle part because then the rest is unclear. In the image above, you can see how the vignette has helped to make only some of her face light. I really liked this effect.

Another way in which I treated our media product was by the use of "Noise". This gave it a grainy effect which moved on the screen like an old movie. However when I put it on YouTube, this effect was lost a little bit. However in darker shots, it is still visible.  " -Copied from Fern Disney

Production Schedule

-Using Kaya as the Two dolls in the location of Megan's house.

We are shooting here first as the main part of our film opening are the dolls in a bedroom. We chose Megan's bedroom as it was the most suited to a horror movie. In light of this, it made sense to shoot the main aspects first so that we can coordinate the other shots to sequence around them. Also, Megan lives the furthest away so we decided to get that shoot done.

-  The doll house and hands playing with stick dolls.

Wee are going to shoot this second as the Dolls house i in my own bedroom (Kaya) and I do not live afraid from college. Shooting this scene helped up piece together a sequence.

- Filming the "victim" photos in forest pegged on tree branches and mushed into the ground.
- Kaya running in the forest (after we have filmed the victim photos)
- Filming the playing with tea cup toys in the forest.

All of these forest scene will be aimed to be shot on the same day as the location of the forest is next to the college, meaning if things need to be redone it is not a hassle to go back and re-shoot. It also means we could edit the shots on the same day.

-  Recording the narration and background noise of our project.

We will be recording the voices overs in the Studio at college using a sound recorder, we will also be using copy right free sound effects and music from Youtube.

Location Release form

These forms needed to be signed to show that we were allowed by the owners to shoot in the locations that e did. Only a few places were private (Megan and Kayas homes) meaning that we only had to sign minimal.

Horror Film Timeline

Film synopsis

Our Synopsis:
-"We are introduced to the small village of Boven in the countryside of England, a village that inhabits members whom have gained acquaintance for many, many years, through many, many generations. A quiet, peaceful, tranquil town... Or so you would think.
When Lucy (Kaya Dalton), a kind student from London, decides to take a trip to Boven for a reunion with her long lost cousins, things just do not seem to add up. Friendly, welcoming members of the society begin to disappear, one by one. Frantically Lucy tries to search for an answer, who is doing this to Boven and what do they want?
It could be Lucy's detective-like work that gets her into a seriously dangerous and life threatening situation. When faced with death - Lucy finally comes face to face with the Human Dolls of Boven. Was it fate that brought Lucy her, or perhaps a very convenient coincidence? Leaving us all questioning who are these dolls, what exactly do they want with Lucy?"

Explanation:
- As a group we came up with this synopsis, upon researching other film synopsis' of a similar genre to ours, such as The Woman in Black (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1596365/synopsis). Researching this synopsis helped us to only include information that we thought was totally vital and interesting too the audience, whilst also outlining the plot, an almost 'who done it' style of synopsis, we found that many supernatural horror synopsis's have a 'who done it' element to their synopsis's and therefore we gathered inspiration from those.
- We wanted to set our film in the isolated setting of a village to evoke fear within our consumers - typically villages have a low count of police, ambulance and other emergency services. We intended for the lack of these vital services and the terror that is caused by the dolls to create tension and a sense of hopelessness for the lives of the villagers and Lucy.
- We decided to use a lot of rhetorical questions within the synopsis, again, to keep the audience questioning and guessing  - thus creating mystery and the fear of the unknown.

This was the work of Megan Byrne, copied from her blog because she was in charge of doing the film synopsis for our media product/ primary task.

Logo

Image result for disney logo
This is the Walt Disney Pictures Logo, probably the most famous/recognized logo ever. I like the way that it is young and shows who their targets are with the castle and rainbow. The writing is curly and fun allowing children to be attracted to the logo..

MKF Company logo.
MKF stands for Megan, Kaya and Fern. There reason we made this logo was because an eagle is a dark spirit whilst our film opening is a horror so it suited.
- We liked the image of an eagle with a film role for the wings as this represents us as team the best. The strong eagle who has the knowledge and ability to conquer anything and the film role wings tying in with our passion for media.

Creating Process:
- We decided to create our logo on www.freelogoservices.com. The process of creating our logo was simple, on the website there were various different logo options which were all customisable by changing the fonts, colours etc.

- This is what the editing of our logo process looked like on www.freelogoservices.com
- We wanted to keep the logo as 'classic' looking as possible, we gathered inspiration from logos of production companies such as Disney's 'Touch Stone', as we think that our production company would feature the same style of films as Touch Stone:

- Touch Stone's logo style keeps everything very simplistic and classic, using darkened, neutral colours. This was our main inspiration when creating our logo.
- Touch Stone's capital lettering inspired the 'MKF' part in larger capital letters with 'productions' in a slightly smaller font.

- For our font choice we picked 'Helvetica'. We decided to pick this font because it is one of the most popular typefaces in the world, using such a common and popular font we decided would reach out to our consumers, as stated we believe our consumers are likely to be of 'The Mainstream' bracket thus meaning they are likely to reach out with popular and common fonts.

Props and location

Location 1: Forrest.
Initially we, Megan, Fern and I, as a group were looking to film half our media project in a bedroom, and the other half in a Forest. This idea sprung up as the day was misty and we could hardly see more than 10 feet in front of ourselves, generally, misty forests give off creepy vibes. Therefore we filmed our character running through the Forrest. However when it came to editing, we found that using the running scenes did not match up to what we already had of the dolls. It seemed as though it would put a stop in the tense atmosphere that was gradually being built up, meaning we would have to choose one or the other. Looking over the clips, we chose to cut out the forest scenes, however we did leave one shot when we filmed an image of a 'victim' hanging on a tree, swinging in the wind, this in itself was rather creepy as it creates an eerie atmosphere.

Props: Tea cups

One of our props that we used were childrens plastic tea cups. Our first plan was to take off the stickers and draw antique looking flower patterns to make them look older and make it more of a traditional horror prop. However when it came to drawing on them, it was difficult and marker pens would just run and no other pen would set, because of this we decided to use the stickers. Following this, when we filmed them, we decided they actually look better anyway. Also we were able to cover them in mud allowing us to create a messy aura. These shots were filmed in the location of the Forest.

Props: chalkboard

For our main credits we used a chalk board. The reason for doing so was because it gave it an old vibe. To emphasize this we hand held the camera and editing noise into the shot so that it looked like some of the very first cinematic horror. Fern drew this inspiration from a horror TV show she had watched in the past called the American Horror Show. We all agreed that this effect really worked with our theme.
Props: images

This is the example of the 'victim' shot that we used. We did shoot 5 however this was the best one to come out. This was also shoot in the forest as explained 2 above. To create this effect we originally printed off images of portraits and manipulated them by hand (physical experiments). We drew this inspiration from work which we had done for photography. We scratched out faces, wrote on them and near enough destroyed them.
Props: dolls house

Location: Megan's bedroom

As our genre we chose horror. We decided to manipulate childhood innocence. We are using dolls as we thought it would be a good idea to shoot part of our product in a pretty bedroom. It was very handy that Megan's bedroom resembles the looks which was intended. Above is an image taken from our final project showing what is seen in the film opening - the mental bed frame. I think it works well  and am glad we shot the dolls scene here.
Props: wish dolls

Another prop we used was little wishing dolls. These were my own so we didn't have to buy dolls. They turned out to be perfect because they are so small, and the dolls house is rather large, the contrast in size creates a tenser mood. The person playing with them puts them on the stairs and knocks them down. This is brutal and suggests a deadly atmosphere around. As you can see from the screen shot, it has a vignette and a noise efffect, along with being hand held. I really like these effects with the dolls because I believe they all work together to form that horror feel. Additionally as it was hand held, the focus keeps going in and out which I really like because it gives an eerie effect of someone's watching you.

Make-up
Using Pinterest to find different scar dolls ideas for makeup, we decided to use one scary doll and one colourful, sweet doll. We saved our favourite pictures and used them to accumulate ideas. However, we did find that the ones on Pinterest seemed very professional and hard to replicate. In light of this, we decided to go down to basics:
We used stereotypical outlined red lipstick on our doll to represent the colours along with long fake eye-lashes and pink eye shadow to show the femininity and fake innocence.
We made this doll with the lips not fitting the whole lip- like the first image displayed above. I thought this was a good idea because it represented a darker looking soul, it shows deformity in a makeup manner.
